Education:
BA in psychology with a minor in counseling from San Francisco State
University. MS in Educational Counseling from National University
and I am currently attending California State University San Marcos
in preparation to become a special education teacher.
Swimming background: I was a Competitive swimmer for about 10 years.
I started swimming on a summer league when I was 7 and followed
up by joining a year round swim team in San Jose. At the age of
10 I moved to San Diego and swam in this LSC and swam in high school.
When I attended SFSU I walked on and swam for one season.
Coaching background: I started coaching a summer league when I was
17. In 1999 I worked with P.S for the summer by coaching the summer
swim team. When I left for college I was too busy with school and
my part time job as a child care worker to commit myself to coaching
on a swim team. When I was done with my masters program I started
coaching again for P.S and have been back for a year and half now.
During the spring of 2005 I was a coach for the stroke clinics held
at UCI and the summer of 2005 I was a camp counselor for the USC
swim camp run by Mark Shubert. Also, in June of 2006 I attended
the Western States Swim Clinic.
My coaching philosophy is to encourage and support each swimmer
in attaining their goals. It is my personal goal to bring the best
out in each swimmer and to teach them skills that will carry over
outside of the pool that they can apply to their everyday lives.
I try and give each swimmer individual attention by getting to know
the swimmer through conversations about school or other sports,
by means of praise for hard work, and stroke correction. It is my
personal belief that swimming should make a swimmer feel good about
themselves and a coach is there to give words of inspiration and
care, especially when a swimmer is feeling frustrated and/or discouraged.
